Everything lights up like a gods damned carnival ride. RGB motherboards, RAM, SSDs, monitors, headphones, holy crap. I want some stuff that’s fairly high performance without looking juvenile. Is that too much to ask?

Meanwhile, I love the WRX STi for the wing and I drive a lime green car. And yet, the Type-R also falls under the “incredibly expensive and extremely juvenile looking” umbrella.

I have a non-see through case. You can see some carnival lights poke through some gaps if it’s dark and you look closely  but it’s mostly contained

I totally agree. Lighting up shit sucks. Why can't I have a conservative gaming rig

I prefer this over the STi when it comes to exterior .

And I would say a color is not juvenile. Depends on what car the Lime Green paint is on

Right? It’s part of the reason why the next case I get probably won’t have a glass side panel. Although then it will probably look like some sort of hellbox through the vents.

Next up, trying to find a gaming monitor that doesn’t look like it might be a Transformer.

I had that problem recently when I went to buy a CPU cooler. Micro Center had two versions of the same unit on sale. List was $40, but the one without the stupid LEDs was $30 and the one with was $27. Being the cheap bastard that I am I bought the $27 one and snipped the wires to the LEDs. I don’t want to hear my computer and I certainly don’t want to see it, thankyouverymuch...

Current lighting on my Ryzen system:

Red motherboard lighting

RGB RAM

Otherwise a non-lit 1080 was an odd find, and my Noctua cooler doesn’t have any lights thankfully. I do have a glass side panel, though I wouldn’t have if I could have opted for not having it for the same price on the same case (thermaltake Core x5).

I feel you.

This was very frustrating to me as well when I built my computer a couple years ago (wow it’s been that long already). I don’t want it to light up, I’d rather save the $5 in BOM costs.

Terrible pic, but I got as basic a case as I could. But well built.

I’m sure you can buy a decent motherboard and mouse without the lights.

As for the case lights, you should be able to disable them.

OR... you can get something like a vintage radio and turn that into a custom case:

Working on it. Graphics cards, though, all seem to light up like Christmas trees.

The only thing that lights up on mine is 1 fan. Since I have a clear side panel and the computer sits next to my bed, this was a bad build choice. Now I need to upgrade my graphics card and the ones that meets the specs I want in my price range all have lighting.

I’m weird because I am probably similar to your age maybe (32...? ) and like flashy colors and lights on my PCs...mostly because I really started getting into computers in the early-to-mid 2000's where LED fans, CCFLs and etc were becoming a common case mod thing. :P

That being said, most can be easily turned off. My brother’s current PC replaced his old one that died last year. His new motherboard has pulsating (or static) amber LEDs that can be turned on or off.

You and me both, there. I was going to buy a 1080Ti but instead NV has demanded all stock be pulled. Because can’t force people to buy an RTX if they can get a faster card for the same money or less. Doesn’t matter if the cards were already in the distribution pipe. They are beyond unethical. I’m expecting the next driver update to do the stunt where they cripple ‘obsolete’ card performance to make their ‘new’ card look better, too.

AMD’s already beating the shit out of Intel, taking their lunch money, and boning their mom afterward. At least in the segments I primarily service. Absolutely none of my tier 1 customers are even willing to consider i9's or Xeon W’s. Especially not when they found out they are absolute core-lock with regards to clock. You want the advertised clock rate? Drop it to a single core or you get nothing. Meanwhile, the EPYCs will run all cores full boost infinitely as long as you can keep them cool.

Being able to turn it off is nice, I just wish the price premium wasn’t there.

And likely a similar age, although I think I’m a bit younger. I did, however, grow up ogling Alienware computers and thinking they were the shit.

I have a high end chassis with large clear side panel. The rest of the build is quite far above average. The only thing actually fitted with lights is mb which is easily turned off permanently. Two of the five remaining sides are mesh and the back panel is hardly sealed.  In a completely dark room with the monitor turned off even the power/drive activity lights are hardly noticeable.

Same (still have an i5-25 00k or whatever in a slightly dead PC). I’ll probably go R5 2600X on the next one. And maybe someday GPU prices will be less stupid.

I was never into Alienware! A computer-loving nerdy group of friends (many of us started out with DOS, Win95, Win98!) taught me a lot, including building PCs from scratch, so I’ve only ever really thought in terms of ‘parts’ rather than pre-built systems! :)

All my own PCs (aside from laptops, of course) have been custom built by yours truly!

Pretty sure I have an i3- 2120, it has been great for the past 8 years but its time is definitely up .

2600x looks great, I’m considering that as well. I’ve thought about picking up a used gpu for the time being. My coworker gets all of his parts off Ebay and suggested it.

Yeah, I started a lot later than that. I had a buddy who got me into it, and in 2009 he helped me build my first (and I guess only) PC. I’ve done a few upgrades, but it’s getting old and the graphics drivers just hate, so it’s time for a new build.

My current Win10 desktop PC is fairly recent, but it has some of my older parts in it - it’s fine for w hat I use it for (Core i7 3.4ghz, 2GB Radeon HD7870 video card, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD OS drive, 320GB Data Drive).

I built my first PC in 2004, still remember the stats - AMD AthlonXP 2500+ 1.8ghz single-core, 512MB RAM later upgraded to 2GB, Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB, 80GB Western Digital IDE hard drive. I still have that hard drive and use in a spare computer, I leave my PC on 24/7 and that thing has like 10 YEARS of powered-on time and still works perfectly with no errors at all in the SMART diagnostics!!! Part of the reason I will only buy Western Digital mechanical drives, haha! (My SSD is a Samsung 850).

That 2004 system looked like this at the time! ;)

I feel your pain. I built mine in mid-2016 and only the motherboard has the option of lighting up. I did later add a gaming mouse which can also be turned off. I’m not having anything that I can’t at least permanently disable.

I bought a franctile define r5 and all silent fans. Intent was to have it in my bedroom and run at night.

Case has a power led that is brighter than the sun. Mobo is covered in LEDs.

Any decent Mobo has LEDs. They had fatality edition shit. How about adult edition?
